john guffey

John was born on April 5th, 2001 to Bridgett and Carl Guffey in Madison, Tennessee. Because of endometrosis and multiple feminine reproductive related surgeries, Bridgett was told by doctors that she wouldn’t be able to concive any children. If she would get pregnant, she wouldn’t be able to carry the child to term. However, Bridgett longed to have children and, after discussing with her doctor the possibility of having a child , he agreed to see her through it. From the onset, Bridgetts’ was a high risk pregnancy. She was plague with health problems and at her 6th month of pregnancy she developed Toxima C Hellp Syndrome. She was put to bedrest but after one week, John was born through c-section.

John weighted 1lb 8oz and was 12 and 1/2 inches long at birth. He stayed 4 months at he hospital where he had 3 blood transfussions due to the Toxima C Hellp Syndrome that he inherited from Bridgett. Because of his prematurity he was born with cronic lung disease which made him susceptible to upper respiratory infections and cause apnea. He also suffered brain bleeds which caused cerebral palsy.

Bridgett felt forced to leave her job at a pediatric clinic in order to better take care of all the special needs of John. John is currently 5 years old and unable to walk. John can crawl and uses a wheelchair to move around. He attends a mainstream school at his hometown and is the only child in his school, which is not handiccaped accessible, in a wheelchair. He is left in his wheelchair while the rest of his classroom plays in the playground. He receives physical, occupational, hyppo and water therapy through their insurance. However, John still can’t walk.

The Guffeys’ learned about Intensive Pediatric Therapy and the positive results it’s having on many children. They manage to collect some money from family and friends to provide their son with this amazing treatment. However, they still far from the amount is required to pay for the complete therapy. Bridgett is currently physically limited herself due to her multiple health challenges. She dreams of John being able to play in his school playgroung with his classmates. She dreams of seeing his little boy walking and achieving a normal life. John is very bright and has much to offer the world and needs your help to achieve the idependence of movement that every child deserves.
