Joshua was born a normal little boy  he was full of life, inquisitive , loving and a bit of a trouble maker but on March 16, 2007 while his mother was at work  and his father  in a training exercise he fell  while in the care of a friend of the family and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He sustained a frontal ,parietal and partial occipital blood clot which pressed down on his brain. As a result he had to have an emergency craniotomy  to remove the blood clot from the space between his brain and skull. After surgery all the doctors prognosis were for little or no hope of survival. He was on a self induced coma, a ventilator, with a feeding tube, femoral line, central line  and in the

highest intensive care unit at Children’s  Hospital in Washington DC .   The doctors had stated to his mother that they didn’t think that he would survive 24 hours. He by a miracle of God and a lot of prayer from his family was able to come off the ventilator and only need little oxygen  7 days after his surgery. He was moved out of intensive care to a regular floor and there 14 days after his surgery woke up from his self induced coma. He was then transferred to a Pediatric Rehab facility were he lived for the next 5months. While at the pediatric rehab facility he received physical, occupational, speech and pet therapy . The doctors and therapist there after some months  gave their best professional opinion the he had recovered all he would and that he would never be able to do any of the things that he did before let alone progress to be an independent, productive human being.  He would always need to be taken care of for the rest of his life. That devastated  his mother ,family and all those who knew him.  His mother had faith in him and that there had to be a program or a way to help him get better. His mother looked for all the programs in the area but there were none that would give the kind of therapy that he needed especially intensive therapy. Through a friend she found a pediatric therapy center that would give him some of the therapy that he needed. Like most of the pediatric centers and because of the coverage of the insurance he would only be able to get 2 hours of Physical therapy and 2 hours of Occupational therapy even though the doctors recommendation were for at least 5 hours of each therapeutic discipline a week. For Joshua to receive the hours of therapies he does receive currently his mother has to drive 70 miles round trip three times a week  He has made great progress at this center  but isn‘t able to progress more because he can not be given enough hours. He currently has no breathing help, no feeding tube and has full range in all his limbs. Unfortunately because of this injury he now suffers myoclonic seizures that have caused him to be hospitalized several times. These seizures are being  monitored and he is taking medications for them. With the intensive therapy that he would receive at therapies 4 kids Joshua could once again be an independent little boy. Our goal as his family is to be able to get him all the help he needs but we don’t have the resources to get him to this vital program.  With your generous donations Joshua could once again walk, talk and be a true testimony of what  Therapies 4 kids does for all its patients. We have also created a page in Joshua’s honor in Facebook for those that would like to get updates and see what kind of impact their donation has had in his life. The page can be found under Joshua’s Lullaby. Hope to see you there so you can witness the true miracles of life.
