Back on Monday, Sept. 10, 2007, my 15 month old son drowned in our pool and is now in a coma. For anyone that has children, small or big, please be careful with pools. Make sure you either have a pool guard or a fence around your pool so your kids can't get in. Drowning children is a big issue in the United States right now. For your children's safety and your own learn how to swim and learn CPR. You never know when or where you are going to need to use CPR. My son is now in a coma in a hospital in Orlando, Florida and the hospital doesn't think he is going to ever wake up. He has severe brain damage and is only using the smallest amount of his brain. Basically, eating, breathing and reflexes. We are praying everyday that he will wake up soon and be a kid again. So, PLEASE, take care of your kids and protect them well, because you never know when something like this could ever happen and hopefully it doesn't. GOD BLESS EVERYONE.
On the morning of the 10th of September, my 2 sons and I were watching a movie. During the movie, I had stepped away from the children for a few minutes. My sons ages are 15 months for the baby and the older child is 2 1/2 year old. While I was away, my 2 1/2 year old son opened the patio door. When I had returned, I noticed the boys were no longer in the family room, the older of the two boys was outside on our patio with the door open. I looked all around for the baby and when I didn't find him, I ran outside to our pool and he was floating face down on the top step with one leg out of the water. Our pool guard/fence had been broken months earlier when we had an attempted brake in. We had notified the owner of the house and he never fixed it. So on this morning of the 10th of September, the pool guard/fence was down. After I found him in the pool, I didn't know what to do, so I screamed for help. There were two pool men working on a house next door. They came over. One of the men performed CPR on my son and the other called 911. I was assisting with the CPR while holding back my 2 year old son. With-in minutes paramedics arrived and resuscitated him. They immediately took him to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida. When he arrived at the hospital, the doctors said he slipped into a coma. He has been there ever since.
After 11 days of being in the hospital, he went for surgery to get a trachea tube for breathing and a G-tube for feeding. The doctors have told us he is severely brain dead, but the only part of his brain that works is the brain stem. His vital organs are working incredibly. He has been in the hospital now for 31 days and he is still in a coma.
Thank you for listening to my story and praying for my son. GOD BLESS EVERYONE.
Your truly,
Joe Isserles and Maria Polizzi
