Cheyenne Leslie
On Friday April 23th, 2004 at 5:30pm, a beautiful baby girl weighing
in at 6lbs 5ozs was born. She was two days early, but she was just
perfect and wonderful made just as God intended her to be. It was
a normal birth no complications. On Sunday, we took Cheyenne home
with instructions to bring her to her pediatrician on the 27th of
April for a check-up, the doctor gave her a good bill of health, she
was also given a Hepatitis B shot. The next two weeks Cheyenne was
like any newborn, she was nursing every 2hrs and slept normally. On
May 11th Cheyenne was scheduled for another visit with her lead Pediatrician.
This time she was given two shots (MMR and Varicella combined) A few
days after this visit Cheyenne started twiching on the right side
of her body and rolling her eyes back. It gradually became obvious
something was going very wrong with Cheyenne so we took her to the
emergency room and she was admitted right away. The doctors ran a
battery of tests on her and we were told that the symptoms were that
of seizures! The doctors could not tell us why or find a medicine
to stop the seizures. Some time went by and finally Trilental administered.
This placed the seizures under control, Cheyenne remained in the hospital
for 1 month. We had no clue about this illness at the neurology follow-up
visit after she was discharged. The doctors conclusion was that Cheyenne
was not receiving enought oxygen to the right side of her brain and
she was diagnosed with a massive lesion on her brain. We were informed
that she has Cerebral Palsy and our world changed that day. We were
so scared and frightened on April 2007. She learned to walk one week
before her 2nd birthday, but she is very weak on her feet. She constantly
falls over due the imbalance in her feet. She is unable to use her
right hand and has speech problems because the muscles in her mouth
are weak. We know that with therapy she will receive at Therapy4kids,
her growth will improve tremendously! We look forward to her improvement
and bright and active future!
