Nicholas Oliveira Nicholas Oliveira Nicholas Oliveira

Nicholas was born in January, 1st 2004. The contractions begun in the morning when We were helping with a barbecue. My friend was helping me hubing my back and I started to walk around the swimming pool to help to dilate. Everything was ok by then.

We celebrating the New Year's and also the arrival of the baby. Until that moment we didn't know if the baby were a boy or a girl. We went to the hospital in the end of the afternoon.

We got to the hospital and the paramedics gave me a wheel chair, I was having difficult in walking.

I went with a friend to the room when my husband was filling out the papers on the front desk.

The contractions were more frequents and between 5 and 3 minutes. I changed my clothes and a nurse helped me to get on a bed.

Without a monitor and not knowing anything about the baby she made a exame to measure the cervix opening. My water broke and I became happier because I thought in minutes I was to have my baby and hold him in my arms.

After that, the nightmare started...

First the umbilical cord was hanging Nicholas by the neck. My doctor and the anesthetist weren't in the hospital yet.

Nicholas took 40 minutes to born. We weren't able to see him. He was right to the NICU. Only 1 day after he was born we were allowed to see him.

He had convulsions that day, and he had to stay 10 more days on the unit.

All doctors were saying they could not predict his life, and if he could have a normal life. Only time would tell.

The time past by, and Nicholas went to therapy within 3 weeks of life. He had colics and difficulties to drink on the bottle, and later, he had trouble feeding even on the breast.

He was a 7 months boy looking like he was just a month old baby. And listening a conversation between a physical therapist and a speech therapist I learned that he might have had Cerebral Palsy. I knew what doctors weren't able to tell me. Neither his pediatrician, nor his neurologist.

Since that I started to fight for his conditions and work for my child to give him a normal life.

Nicholas is 3 and a half years old, he doesn't eat by himself, he does not walk, he does not crawl perfectly, but he is a very intelligent boy.

He loves cars, bikes, books, balls. He loves to play with Iuryck, his older brother.

Nicholas has a dream of run, jump, play ball, bike with Iuryck.

Would you like to help him make his dream come true?

I greatly appreciate your help and God bless you and your family.

Ana Oliveira.
