GARRETT WITwER

Garrett was born on November 3 2003 with complications. His twin died inside the womb which caused a twin to twin transfusion. This left him with bowel issues.

After he was born he was rushed to the children's hospital in Memphis Tennessee where he received a surgery. After 14 days in the hospital he was released and we went home thinking that every thing was back to normal. Little did in know that it had all just began.

When Garrett was a month old he developed NEC, which is where part of the bowel dies. The doctors in the NICU told me that he would not make it and asked me to not leave his side. After 12 hrs of watching my son fight for his life they asked if they could do exploratory surgery where they removed 1ft of bowel out of my 6lb baby boy. HE MADE IT!!!

The doctors didn't think he would but God had more important things that he needed my Garrett to do and he was not going to go right now. After that we spent 4mths in the hospital where he was fed through a central line and spent time on his back with colostomy bags on his tummy. In Feb of 2004 he had another surgery to conect his bowels. On March 24 we went home!! It was over at last.....

Then we started to noticed that Garrett was not meeting his developmental milestones, so we started sending him to Physical therapy. It was then i was told that he would not walk until he was five and that would be with a walker. I couldn't understand why my baby had to go through this but I knew that this wasn't the end, God had Plans. My mother was searching on the Internet for different kinds of therapy and found Therapies 4 Kids, it was there that he learned to walk, with out the walker and he was only 2. He had done it again, denied the odds that were stacked up against him.. After therapy one day during Garretts nap he had his first known seizure to us, that was the scariest thing in my life. I didn't know what to do.

There was someone there that did know what to do and helped my husband and me get him to the hospital where he could get help. To this date Aug 25 2006 he has had 3 seizures after a CT and MRI scan we now know that he had a stroke inside the womb or a couple of days after. Why did he have a stroke no one knows!? But now we do and we are trying help our son, Garrett, get the help he needs to have the best start in life.

Garrett is 3 yrs old and a very happy guy at that. He loves cars, really anything with wheels. Garrett has brought so much joy to our lives and alot of love. One of Garrett's newest saying is " I DID IT!! " Help us Help Garrett continue to say ' I did it' .. Thank You for your help...
